following up on an earlier report & comments I made on the matter of Vale of Glamorgan Councillor Tony Hampton, which I have both linked and repeated after this update below.
Let us note from the consensus of reports to date that there does seem to be something of a cover-up of facts underway!
This report from the media shows that they are aware of the charges for paedophilia made against Tony Hampton, but seem not to be acting responsibly in reporting it minded that so far the case has dragged on for at least 18 months.
Clearly, justice delayed is justice denied!
Barry councillor Anthony Hampton denies historic child abuse allegations
A BARRY councillor is to go on trial after he pleaded not guilty to allegations of historical sexual offences against children, writes Iwan Gabe Davies.
Anthony Hampton, aged 71, of Fforest Drive, appeared before Cardiff Crown Court to deny 15 indecent assault charges involving two boys.
The former chairman of the Welsh Joint Education Committee and long-standing Vale of Glamorgan and Barry Town Council Conservative councillor spoke to confirm his name, address, nationality and plead not guilty when the counts were put to him.
The complainants claim the allegations took place during the 1990s.
The prosecutor was Roger Griffiths and Hampton was represented by his barrister John Ryan.
Hampton was told that a provisional trial date of July 8 was set and that it is expected to last six days.

You may note that entering just the word >Hampton< in the Barry And District News search box, this is the most recent article noted! is this due to the initials of the paper being BAD News or is there, in fact, a cover-up underway?
Very clearly this is a case of ‘justice delayed is justice denied’ I do appreciate despite the overarching nature of EU law it is still a case under British implementation of the law that an individual is innocent until proven guilty, which rather begs the question of the acceptability of holding such innocent individuals in custody, or for that matter releasing them on bail, as with Tony Hampton, sentenced to reappear before the Courts when summoned!
To update you – there may have been other appearances – on 12-Aug-2019 Tony Hampton was in Crown Court in Cardiff for a hearing where he pleaded Not Guilty to 15 charges of sexually abusing children when he was a school teacher in the 1980 & 90s. The Court released him on bail to appear again for a further hearing on 01-Nov-2019.
The purpose of the next hearing I am unsure of, but am led by the Court to believe it may be so that he can consider his plea, reach an agreement on which he pleads guilty or faces further charges etc., there is an assignment of 3 weeks Court time now scheduled to commence on 23-Mar-2020.
The trial, as scheduled will be more than 2 years after he was first arrested & charged/cautioned. The length of time and various appearances, plus the fact of bail and the 3 weeks scheduled would seem to indicate the Police, the CPS and the Courts believe there is sufficient evidence for both a lengthy trial, with extensive evidence to be heard and a likely expectation of proving guilt.
As to the issue of bail I am surprised that there has not been any public notification of surrender of passport & travel rights, minded that it seems likely guilt will be proven, as shown above, as a school teacher with a duty of care as ‘in loco parentis’, sexually abusing young boys can be expected to attract a sentence of not less than 5 years and pleading not guilty would exacerbate this; in that Tony Hampton will be around 73 when sentenced the outcome could well encourage flight!
Considering the possibility of flight risk is not as unlikely as it may seem when one considers the recent alleged suicide of Jeffrey Epstein, a likelihood of flight being possibly more likely due to the fact that I understand his present partner is of Greek origin and they have been, I understand, frequent visitors to Greece.
I am also minded that should such a flight occur, by the time of the trial Britain will be out of the EU, which could give rise to added legal complexities relative to extradition and repatriation from Greece its islands or Turkey!
Meanwhile, in proof that justice delayed is justice denied is, if nothing else, clearly justice is denied the taxpayers of Glamorgan who will, until the verdict, at the earliest next April, continue to pay his salary & expenses as a Councillor. On such charges surely Glamorgan Council must have introduced measures of control to keep this man, who is on bail facing paedophile charges, insulated from further risk – how can such a man be expected to acquit his duties as a Councillor or relative to education and minors?

in the light of the two articles (and others), posted on or about the 21-Dec-2018, relating to the arrest in Jan-2018 of Vale of Glamorgan Councillor Tony Hampton – long term partner of Barry Councillor Marguerita Wright – on multiple counts of sexual abuse of children when he was a school teacher.
In that Tony Hampton left teaching unexpectedly some years ago and has been a luminary on various Councils, including being, as I recall, a sometime chairman of the Welsh Joint Education Committee I find it surprising no media coverage has been given to the fact that he was before the Cardiff Magistrates Court on 15-Jan-2019, where he pleaded Not Guilty!
He has been remanded to appear for trial at Crown Court 12-Feb-2019.
I am concerned that, in the light of his track record, this is a prelude to what seemed to be a Crachach inspired miscarriage of Justice in the case of Plaid AM Simon Thomas who received an utterly irresponsible sentence for his criminal sexual behaviour see: CLICK HERE
A Vale of Glamorgan councillor and former schoolteacher – Anthony Hampton (71) – has been charged with a number of historical child-sex offences.
MediaWales reports that Cllr Hampton – who is a Conservative councillor representing the Illtyd Ward of Barry – now faces 10 counts of indecent assault.
He has been suspended by the Vale of Glamorgan Conservative Association with immediate effect but remains a salaried councillor.
The Vale Council’s Head of Legal and Democratic Services said “Under the Local Government Act it is only the Adjudication Panel for Wales that has the statutory power, following an application from the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, to suspend councillors on an interim basis.” However the Vale Council’s safeguarding process was instigated on Cllr Hampton’s initial arrest.
Meanwhile the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales has confirmed that it too is investigating a complaint against Cllr Hampton.

On further investigation this came to light:
Vale councillor Anthony Hampton charged with historical sex offences against children
The former teacher is accused of alleged offences relating to two people who were children at the time
A Vale of Glamorgan councillor has been charged with alleged historical sexual offences against children.
Police have charged councillor Anthony Hampton, 71, from Barry, with a number of non-recent sexual offences.
Former teacher Hampton, a Conservative councillor for Illtyd, was arrested in January, and was today charged with 10 counts of indecent assault.
Hampton is also a former cabinet member for education in the Vale and is a director of a building firm called Hamptons Ltd.
The charges relate to two people, who were children at the time of the alleged offences.
He will appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on January 15.
South Wales Police said detectives are continuing to carry out further inquiries.
Debbie Marles, Monitoring Officer/Head of Legal and Democratic Services, said: “Cllr Hampton remains an elected member of the council for the Illtyd ward.
“Under the Local Government Act it is only the Adjudication Panel for Wales that has the statutory power, following an application from the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, to suspend councillors on an interim basis. As the Council’s Monitoring Officer I have informed the Ombudsman’s Office of this matter. Cllr Hampton does not currently sit on any committees.
“The Council takes allegations of this kind extremely seriously.
“After being informed of the arrest of Cllr Hampton by South Wales Police earlier this year the Vale of Glamorgan Council, in conjunction with Barry Town Council, immediately instigated its safeguarding process in line with the All Wales Child Protection Procedures.
“The council has since worked to assist the police with their investigation.”
The Public Services Ombudsman for Wales has confirmed it is investigating a complaint against Hampton.
A spokeswoman said: “The Ombudsman has today received a referral from the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Monitoring Officer of an alleged breach of the code of conduct by councillor Anthony Hampton. The Ombudsman will be investigating the complaint.”
A spokesman for the Vale of Glamorgan Conservatives said: “Cllr Anthony Hampton has been suspended from the Vale of Glamorgan Conservative Association with immediate effect.”
